Linda and Ann Poteet - or Linda Golden and Ann Hunsaker - were born in Alvarado, Texas where the families lived for many generations. With only 18 months difference in their ages, the sisters grew up very close - sharing the same room, cloths, ideas, secrets, hopes, and dreams. After high school, each married and moved away, but continued to maintain a close bond. During this period each gave birth to a daughter. Linda pursued a career in office management in sales and distribution, yet satisfying her creative talents with artwork for family and friends. In addition, her keen interest in gardening lead to a comprehensive knowledge in the growing and caring of house plants. The pursuit progressed into a business of supplying and maintaining plants for hotels and commercial buildings. In the late 70's Ann opened the first boutique on the Island of Providenciales in the British West Indies, and island of less than 500 people. A hideaway to the DuPonts, Roosevelts and other prominent families, the island became a challenge in finding merchandise that would interest this selective group. Consequently, creativity blossomed out of necessity.
In 1986, however, the sisters decided to join forces - founding the Sisters Trading Company on South Padre Island. Each sister has her own abilities: Linda with artistic skills and business sense; Ann with concepts and vision. Their fortitude, stamina and their devotion to serve their customers are the principal factors in making Sisters Trading Company successful despite the troubled economy of the mid/late 80's.
The sisters continually strive to reach out to fill the store with the latest in beautifully decorated designed and crafted art objects, original art, collectibles and antiques along with gourmet wines and food. To accentuate, their own originally design iron "Event Tree" for all seasons is unique and the sisters provide decorating demonstrations and instructions for the tree for each seasonal holiday, birthdays and showers. Adding a feather in their caps, Sisters was chosen by MacKenzie-Childs, Ltd. as the 1st store in Texas to carry its complete line of tableware and furniture.
